VISIT & VOLUNTEER
There are no drop-in activities at the Lethbridge Animal Shelter. Animal visiting and volunteer times must be scheduled.
NOTICE: Changes coming to our visiting and volunteer programs.
We will be making adjustments to our animal visiting and volunteering programs at the animal shelter starting in early 2025. Some changes will include a more structured animal enrichment support volunteer program and more availability for adoption appointments. Drop-in visiting and community service volunteer opportunities will be more limited to accommodate our new structured programming.
Check back for more updates.
Animal visiting & dog walking
Use the button below to book an available time slot for visiting. During your visit, you can take adoptable dogs for walks around the shelter property, or play with and socialize cats in our visiting space. These scheduled visiting hours help provide the shelter animals with valuable enrichment and exercise opportunities.
Managing the number of visitors at the shelter significantly reduces stress levels for the animals in the facility. Visitors must be comfortable and capable of handling and controlling shelter cats and dogs when they attend the shelter. Visitors must be 18 years of age or older, or accompanied by a guardian.
Pet adoption appointments
If you are interested in adopting a cat or dog from the animal shelter, please check out our Adoptions page to view full profiles of available pets, and learn more about the process. Viewing and meeting with adoptable pets is by appointment.

Work experience program
This program is intended for individuals needing to complete specific volunteer hours for school or community organizations. Volunteer work activities will include socializing with cats and dogs, providing enrichment through walks and play, and assisting staff with daily cleaning, feeding, and basic care. The volunteer work experience allows you to participate in the day-to-day operations of the shelter's Animal Care Team with guidance and supervision. Staff will provide verification of your hours and an assessment of your work. As this program requires supervision from staff, participation spots are limited.
